4 Things to Know About Linda Ronstadt and the Eagles' Founding

All four founding Eagles members played in Linda Ronstadt’s backing band. Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner each performed with Ronstadt before forming the Eagles.

The connection started with Ronstadt’s 1971 tour. Frey and Henley met while playing in her band, which led to the idea of starting their own group.

Ronstadt’s manager also managed the Eagles. John Hartmann helped launch the band after seeing the chemistry among her backing musicians.

The Eagles’ debut album was recorded with Ronstadt’s producer. Glyn Johns, who produced Ronstadt’s early albums, also produced the Eagles’ first record.
