4 Facts About Grizzly Bear’s Veckatimest Recording Process

Recording started in summer 2008 at Allaire Studios in the Catskill Mountains. The band chose the upstate New York location for its isolation and natural setting.

Additional recording and overdubs happened at the band’s own studios in Brooklyn. This allowed them to refine the sound in a more familiar, urban environment.

The shift from Catskills to Brooklyn reflects the album’s contrast between pastoral and polished. The remote studio gave the initial recordings a raw, spacious quality, while Brooklyn added precision.

The two-location approach was intentional, not accidental. Grizzly Bear used the quiet of the mountains for foundational tracks and the city for detailed layering.
