Lowell Brams is Sufjan Stevens’ stepfather. He married Stevens’ mother when Stevens was a child and helped raise him.

Brams co-founded Asthmatic Kitty Records with Stevens. The label was launched in 2001 and has released most of Stevens’ music.

Brams is a musician in his own right. He released a collaborative album with Stevens in 2020 titled “Aporia.”
